Feel important

Congratulate kids on their accomplishments. Praise them in front of others. This acts as a positive reinforcement. It motivates them to win.

Actions are louder

If you want your child to eat all vegetables, start eating it yourself. Small kids start mimicking their parents even before they start talking.

Efforts are important

Every effort may not lead to success but without effort, there is no success. Children love to be praised. Praise them more for the effort than for the result. e.g. when he shows you a garland made of fish wire, don't just say it's nice but also praise the effort, his patience etc.

Inspire

If you want your kid to learn music, take them to concerts, watch TV shows based on music, and read out a success story of a musician. This will inspire kids.

Let them choose

You want your child to excel in sports. Discover his interests. If he is interested in football let him excel in that. Train him accordingly. He will be motivated from the very beginning as you consider his choice.

Be polite

Your child is at fault, you want them to be corrected. Stay calm and don't shout in front of others. Your kid may feel insulted if you do that. Instead, talk to them when they are alone. Let them understand what is right and what is wrong. If this is not working out a couple of times you can try other ways.

Don't bribe

Kids pick up such habits fast. Instead of sedentary rewards like a video game, you can reward them a good company. e.g. playing football together or a long drive. Kids crave for a lot of attention, especially when they have a sibling who takes their share of time with parents.

Give a choice

If you want your child to clean the study table, give options. Ask if they want to do it now or after some time. Older kids tend to rebel if we order them. If we give them options they enjoy the sense of freedom.

Learn from mistakes

We all make mistake. It's natural for kids too. When they make mistakes, instead of punishing them ask them to learn from mistakes and not to repeat such mistakes. They should improve day by day.

Visualise future

How to motivate your kid to study? Let her visualise future. Let her understand that education will give her a respectable position in society.
